At Bruichladdich, whisky is more than just a drink. It’s a force for positive change. We use our uncompromising spirit to reconnect land, community, and dram for good. We step outside conventional whisky systems to champion agriculture, unlocking barley’s diverse flavour potential and supporting farmers in search of the most respectful solutions for the environment. In this exploratory series, we pioneer three principles: the what, the where and the how of barley growing in Scotland.
In 2004 we issued a call to our community to grow barley for distillation for the first time in over 100 years, capturing our inimitable terroir. What started with one farmer is today an island-wide project. This cereal-forward spirit has been stoved in ex-bourbon and ex-wine casks in our Islay warehouses. Floral and complex, with a maritime-citrus note, this single malt perfectly epitomizes our commitment to provenance and our island community.
Our Bruichladdich Islay Barley is a unique expression of our island home. Here, on this western outcrop overlooking the Atlantic, barley fields are exposed to the elements and ravaged by marauding geese. Conceived, distilled, matured & bottled at Bruichladdich Distillery, Isle of Islay, a product of Scotland.
