Bushmills, the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, unveils its 26-Year-Old Crystal Malt, a remarkable addition to the Prestige Collection. Distilled in 1997 to mark Bushmills’ 400th anniversary, this exceptional single malt is crafted using crystal malt barley, a unique ingredient more commonly found in English beers. The crystal malt’s distinctive curing process imbues the whiskey with rich flavors of caramel, apricots, chocolate, and raisins.
Aged for over two decades in first-fill bourbon barrels from Louisville’s Kelvin Cooperage, this 46% ABV expression boasts a symphony of aromas and flavors. On the nose, discover sweet floral honeyed apples, mellow wood, and caramel. The palate follows with layers of creamy butterscotch, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, and spiced pear, culminating in a finish of warm vanilla and crème brûlée.
Master Blender Alex Thomas, who has overseen this whiskey’s maturation throughout her career, describes it as a testament to Bushmills’ unwavering dedication to excellence. Limited in release, this coveted single malt is initially available at the distillery in Northern Ireland before expanding to global markets in early 2025.
