In 2024, the second installment of Sour Mash Single Malt Whiskey debuts, featuring a creative blend of mashbills. New Riff, since its early days following its 2014 founding, has been experimenting with malt whiskey. The distillery began producing its initial batches within months of opening, carefully filling barrels at 110 proof and allowing them to age in the Northern Kentucky environment.
For this release, the blend revisits the same mashbills as the original, which involved barrels aged between 7 and 8 years. However, this edition raises the bar with barrels aged for 9 years and introduces malt whiskey aged in Madeira casks.
Bottled at 114.5 proof without chill filtration, the 2024 Sour Mash Single Malt Whiskey features a mashbill composed entirely of different barley varieties—Golden Promise, Maris Otter, and Scottish peated barley malt—alongside two beer-inspired mashbills modeled after traditional Barleywine and Belgian Quadrupel recipes.
